Our New iPad / iPhone App - Miss Swinger vs. Mr Smooth

Please click to download
** Please note, the Android version of this app is coming soon! **

You've been asking for it and here it is (at last)! Our extremely cool new iPhone and iPad animation app is now in the App Store: www.swimsmooth.com/app

Miss Swinger shows you the Swinger stroke style in detail:

Forward and rewind frame by frame using the jog wheel.

Using a straighter arm recovery and two beat kick, this is the style used by most elite triathletes and open water swimmers. Study Miss Swinger's brilliant catch and pull-through, and notice how she creates all that rhythm whilst still using the full range of her stroke.

And of course we also feature Mr Smooth, who you know and love. He shows you the classic long Smooth stroke style used by Olympic Champions such as Ian Thorpe and Rebecca Adlington. The animation has been extensively updated with much improved water effects and lane motion:

You can use the pop-up jog wheel to adjust the stroke rate from 10 strokes per minute (super-slow motion) up to a full-on race pace of 90 strokes per minute. When the animation is paused the jog wheel lets you move forwards and backwards frame by frame.

If the water's obscuring your view you can even remove the water from the shot too:

What's more, every view is synchronised so if you pause the animation you can move around the angles to get a full appreciation of any position in the stroke:

To complete this brilliant coaching tool we've included several articles in the app comparing the stroke techniques of both animations and how to use them to develop your own swimming:

It's a must have for your swimming - download today!

And yes we have an Android version in the pipeline too... :)

The majority of the smartphone market is now Android, not iOS. Might have been better to start with an Android version first.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Android app.

This app looks nice, but at $5.99 it is horribly overpriced! The same content is available for free on your website, so there's no way I'm paying $6 just to be able to view it on my iOS device. This should be $0.99 or maybe $1.99 at most.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the frustration - I'm an Android user myself so I'm directly effected too!

At the outset we looked carefully at our website visitor stats and of mobile devices over 70% are iOS and about 20% Android. So unfortunately we really did have to prioritise the iOS version.

That said, the Android version isn't far away - sorry for the wait!

Hi John, sorry that you don't feel it's worth it for you but yes we do have all the great free stuff available for you to use on our site. :)

The app cost us a lot of money to develop so unfortunately we can't give it away for free this time... We product a lot of materials for free but eventually there reaches a limit.

Saying that, the price of a swim is something in the $3-6 range these days so if we can improve your swimming just a little bit using the app then it seems pretty good value to me!

We understand you’re frustrated it’s not available on Android or other platforms yet, but you’ll appreciate a lot of research went into the two year development of the new Mr Smooth and Miss Swinger app and as Adam said our analytics suggest the majority of our website and console users have IoS devices.

Our developer is working on the other versions as we speak to bring this fantastic new resource to every platform user, so please bear with us!

Android users need to feel some love!

Nothing is really free. Someone has to do the work and pay for it. If it is important the price does not matter. Swim Smooth has really give lots of free advice over the years and have not charged for it. Thanks

Looks like a great iOS app but I am a Android user but hope to see a Android version, thanks Christian

This app is awesome! Exactly what the doctor ordered to help "visualize" freestyle at all angles, etc. Thank you!

Question: do you have this for other strokes as well? Would be an absolute god-send especially for breastroke and fly
(backstroke too, it's just harder to teach the other 2 strokes).

I teach and coach special needs swimmers, and often the visual demonstration beats all other methods;
and believe it or not, cartoon visual demonstrations often beat out video of actual swimmers for some of our special needs swimmers (autism, etc.)

Please let me know if you have anything like this for the other strokes, or where I might be able to find it!

Peace,
Coach Pat Thoreson

This APP is great, and smart decision to go iOS first! Adam, you Paul and the rest of the team rock!
Thanks so much.

When android app is going to launch?

Adam Young said...

Hi Pat, unfortunately no we don't have animations for other strokes - as a company we're very focused on freestyle for distance swimmers, it's very much our passion.

Hi Mermant, we're working on it as fast as we can. In some senses Android is harder for an app like this because of all the different screen sizes and ratios... but it is coming soon!

These are great, very useful animations. Good that Swim Smooth has incorporated the swinger style but, contrary to Swim Smooth, I think the swinger style and the two beat kick are only good for open water. In the pool the smooth style and the six beat kick are clearly better.

Thanks Jonas!

So how do you explain hundreds of amazing pool based swinger performances like this? :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6GmflekO_g

and

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJNIjU2VzCI

The key thing to remember is it's not just who wins the races but what is the best choice for individual swimmers. If you take any natural swinger and try to turn them into smooths they get slower (even in the pool) - that's the reality!
